NEW LOCATION for 2020: The start/finish location will take place at the B&S Fitness Facility located at Shetland Park. (GPS: 90 Leavitt St, Salem, MA – enter the parking lot at the end of the street, bare left and look for Dock 19/20 with the B&S/CFIS Signage.
Details: In it’s 10th year the Black Cat road race is one of those most well attended long distance events in New England. The 10 mile event makes for a great early spring goal while the 20 mile falls at the perfect time for anyone training for Boston or another early spring marathon. This is one of the most scenic endurance events with the best volunteers, plenty of aid stations and some very cool swag options.
Swag: All participants will receive a custom shirt as part of their entry and a finisher medal upon the completion of the race. Additional black cat merchandise will be available to purchase at packet pickup and on race day. (For those of you who are interested in a no swag option, you’ll have that opportunity at checkout.)
Post Race: After you cross the finish line, we’ll have an assortment of delicious refreshments setup inside the B&S Fitness facility. We will be serving fresh fruit, bagels from Bagel World, hot soups by Every Little Breeze and their will be a cash bar setup. With your entry you’ll receive 1 complimentary drink ticket.
10 Miler – $40 through 1/31
20 Miler – $50 through 1/31
(Plus $5 on 2/1, +$5 on 3/1, plus $10 on race day)
No Swag 10 Miler – $30
No Swag 20 Miler – $40
Charity Runners: We do have a charity running option for both the 10 and 20 mile event. This is an additional $10 and all funds collected will be split evenly among-st our three beneficiaries.

Course: The course is challenging and a terrific Boston Marathon prep race. Lots of rolling hills with some good down hills. This year the event will start at B&S Fitness located at Shetland Park. An updated map will be posted as soon as this new course is approved by town municipalities.

Course Time Limit: There is a 4 hour time cap set on this course. If you are in the 20 miler, and are not starting your second lap by 9:55AM, you will not be allowed to continue on to lap 2. If you feel this will be cutting it close for you we will allow you to start at 7:30AM. This start time is not for runners who just wish to start early and is only eligible for the 20 mile distance. You will be DQ’d from any award categories if you start in this early start.

Black Cat Beneficiaries: The Black Cat 10/20 Miler supports a variety of organizations. Team MR8, Allie Castner Foundation & Salem High School Cross Country.
Weather: Unless we encounter a late March Nor’Easta that results in large snowbanks, causing narrowed road ways, we will not be making any decisions regarding the weather until the morning of. Please check our Black Cat Facebook page for updates and keep an eye out for any and all informational emails sent out. Given the nature of these events, there are no refunds regardless of what we are forced to do to keep our participants safe. We would however honor a deferral or credit a portion of the registration fee toward any future B&S event if we were forced to cancel.
