2021 10 & 20 Miler to be held in conjunction with the Wicked Half
Date: Sunday, September 19, 2021
Location: Salem Willows, Soccer Field (129 Fort Ave, Salem MA)
This year we had to merge the the Black Cat 10 & 20 with the annual Wicked Half! There are only so many weekends in the Fall that make sense to offer these distances, so we’ve combined all three distances into one race, on one day. Participants will have a 4 hour time cap to complete their chosen distance. The course will offer aid stations every 1.5-2 miles and there will be a ton of cheerful volunteers on the course. Everyone will receive a custom finisher medal that you will be a nice addition to your collection. The event attracts close to 1000 runners, including elites to beginners traveling from all over the world. The scenery in Salem and Marblehead will make these miles fly by

Saturday Pre Race Pickup 2-6PM at B&S Headquarters, 45 Congress Street, Dock 19/20 Shetland Park, Salem MA (GPS: 90 Leavitt St, Salem MA) and enter Shetland Park at end of street, veer left in the parking lot and look for Dock 19/20 where the stairs are.
Race Day: Starting at 5:30AM at Race Site
**If you are not pre-registered by Friday at Midnight you will not be able to pick up your race materials until race morning.
Swag: Custom long sleeve shirts and personalized bibs will be provided to participants pre-registered by August 15th. All participants will receive an event finishers medal upon completion of the event. If you wish to purchase any additional swag items, you’ll have that opportunity through the registration process and/or at packet pickup or post race.
Course: All starts (10, 13.1, 20) are the same. The 20 and 10 turn around is at the entrance to Devereux Beach. The 13.1 continues around the Marblehead Neck. The 20 miler is two loops of the 10 mile distance.
Course Time Cap: 4 hour time cap beginning at 7AM. **Sunshine start at 6AM will be made available for only 20 milers who are unsure whether they’ll finish within the 4 hour time slot. This will be communicated through the athlete email that will be emailed to you and posted on Tuesday, 9/14.
Course Details (Water Stations and Bathrooms):
The course will have a Water Station every 2 miles or so. Aid stations will have either Gatorade or Water, sometimes both. At the water station at Devereux Beach there will be Gu’s, petroleum jelly, and bathrooms. **Note, water stations will not be setup until 7AM so those participating in the 6AM start, should be equipped with nutrition/fuel for the beginning portion of the course.
Dogs/Strollers: We do welcome dogs and strollers. We do ask that you line up in the back at the start line. Dogs must be leashed at all times.
There will be a parking lot open this year, on the right hand side just before you reach the finish line, there is ample parking this year on the grass by the finish line, parking all down in the Willows casino/entertainment area, parking along Fort Avenue and at the Bentley School (25 Memorial Dr.) less than a 1/2 mile away from the race site. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PARK IN FRONT OF ANY HOUSES OR IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OFF FORT AVE. YOUR CAR WILL BE TOWED. PLEASE OBEY ALL PARKING SIGNS.

Post Race Festivities: Several packaged food items and fruit will be available to choose from. Hot and iced coffee will be available for participants. We encourage you to head downtown Salem where there are several restaurants, bars, cafes and boutique shops that are worth checking out. If you’re looking for breakfast or a post run beverage we recommend visiting The Derby!! Just show them your medal, bib or shirt and they’ll take 10% off your food bill!

Race Refunds & Event Cancellations: We understand life happens and things may come up. We’ve implemented a defer and transfer policy for FREE up to a certain date for all B&S events. Refunds and transfers/deferments made after said date will incur a small fee for administration purposes. In the case of event cancellation due to public safety, inclement weather or some other unforeseen power at be, the event will become virtual.
