Countdown to the Wicked!

What Runners Say about the Wicked

” It was a GREAT race…plenty of port-o-potties at the start/finish and along the course, a boat-load of water stops with such enthusiastic volunteers (the kids were so cute!), awesome swag (the “swivel bat” medal cracks me up!), and the post-race food was great even for us paleoista’s.  Choice of frittata?!   Nice! Your hard efforts shone through and were greatly appreciated.” – DM, 2017

This was the first year I did it and I did the early start. I absolutely LOVE that you support slower participants, not only at this race but at all of your races. I used to run but health issues have temporarily turned me into a walker. I know a LOT of walkers and slower runners who often decide which races to do based on cut-off times and the availability of early starts. Your company is quickly becoming known in the running and walking community as one whose races are friendly to the back of the packers. You will most certainly see an increasing number of participants in the future as the word gets out. I only wish all race directors and race management companies would follow your lead. (I was the one who tweeted about this). Taking the early start I knew that not all of the aid stations would necessarily be open, and in fact the first one was not. However, the rest were, which was nice. And I was happy to see that all of the course markings were up for the early starters as well. I liked that you offered a “donate” and “return” option for discarded clothing, though it was not set up for the early starters. I really liked the shirt and medal. I was very impressed with the post-race amenities. I was thrilled that there was still ice cream and other food available when I finished. The finish area was absolutely beautiful. We couldn’t really see it at the early start since it was so dark. 🙂 The course itself was very scenic and flat overall. My favorite part was in Marblehead near the ocean and in the nice neighborhood. I loved the out and back sections so I could see other participants, and I have to say that many of them were incredibly friendly and encouraging to use walking/jogging. I’ve completed over 200 races and can be pretty picky but I honestly can’t think of many improvements for the Wicked Half Marathon. – AB 2014

Great half today! I’ve been wanting to do this one for a bit and finally didn’t miss the date. The shirts we saw in other races were a major draw to this one -very cool. Now that I’ve done it, I see there are a lot of other draws. It’s a really good course, your water stop people were great and your police help was by far the most race friendly, runner friends (even cheering) people I have ever seen on a course. Nicely done! -CB 2012

I just wanted to say how much I thought Saturday’s half marathon was a great success! It was my first time running the Salem half, my fourth half marathon of the year, and I got a PR!I have lived in Salem for 1.5 years now and run in a lot of local races as well as participating in many other races in the UK where I’m originally from.

The water stations were exactly as advertised distance wise, well managed by the staff and much appreciated by us runners; the course had fantastic volunteers throughout; the timing was accurate (and thank goodness we didn’t have the ankle chips); receiving finishers medals as soon as we finished was perfect; and there was plenty of refreshments and entertainment afterwards. So, thank you, and well done! Again, thanks and congratulations on a well run race! Best Regards, M. Duignan2011

I wanted to let you and Steve know that the Wicked Half was fabulous!!!! This is the 2nd year I have run it and am always appreciative of the amount of work that goes into making this a successful event. The weather cooperated 100% which is always nice and I know a good time was had by all participants.

The volunteers and support were awesome. Brandi, hearing you in the cruiser providing words of encouragement brought a smile and chuckle to all – thank you for the support. Many of my friends ran this race for the first time and had a great race. Thank you again – it was a tremendous success. -Shari Hewson Wicked Running Club
